Vilgrain to invest $369 mln in Chad sugar factory: CEO

French family holding company JL.Vilgrain plans to invest 300 million euros through its Africa-focused agro-industry group SOMDIAA, to construct a new sugar factory in the south of Chad, the firm’s director general said on Monday.

The company plans to build a new sugar manufacturing plant and an adjacent biogas unit to produce electricity, Alexandre Vilgrain told journalists in the capital of the central African nation after meeting with President Idriss Deby.

“The factory will cost about 300 million euros,” Vilgrain said, adding that capacity of the country’s current plant owned by the group was not meeting demand and needed an upgrade.
