USDA sees cane crop 11% up in 2012/13


The Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA) released on February 8th its forecast on the production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2012/13 , and it is at 32.637 million short tons, 11.7% more than the 29.224 million produced last year.

Harvested area was pegged at 899,000 acres, up from 872,600 the year before. Expected yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 36.3 tons per acre, up from 33.5 in 2011/12.
