USDA revises sugar output forecast

The Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA) reduced its 2012/13 sugar production estimate to 9.160 million short tons, raw value, from 9.220 million, as cane sugar production in Florida is lower than expected. Beet sugar production remained at 5.300 million tons, while total cane sugar output is expected to reach 3.860 million.

The USDA also revised its forecast for sugar supplies in 2012/13 (Oct/Sep), raising it by 91,000 short tons, raw value, due to higher sugar imports from Mexico that offset a downward revision of domestic output and tariff rate quota imports.
