Sugar production in Thailand should be at 9.7 million tons

Sugar production in Thailand until March 21st reached 9.17 million tons, 2.0% more than compared with the same period in 2011/12. Sugarcane crushing in the same period increased by 7.1% to 90.47 million tons.

According to the Office of the Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB), Thailand’s 2012/13 crushing season is due to end next week and full production is now expected to reach 9.7 million tonnes, tel quel, of which 7.2 million would be available for export.

The output would be slightly below the record 10.2 million tonnes produced in 2011/12 and would be above the agency’s most recent forecast output of 9.4 million tonnes.
