Sugar output in India is 3% up

The pace of sugar production in India over last fortnight (Jan 15th to Jan 31st ) has been little slower as compared to the first fortnight of the month , according to data from ISMA ( Indian Sugar Mills Association).

Until January 31st, the country had produced 137.51 lakh tonnes of sugar, which is about 2.95% higher than last year same time. Although this year there are about 15 lesser mills crushing sugarcane, but with better crushing capacities and capacity utilization, the production is higher to last year.

A total of 510 sugar mills are operational and they have crushed more than 1410 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, which is again 2.98% higher than last year.
