Sugar demand growth driven by Asia and Africa

Asia and Africa will be responsible for driving a significant global growth in sugar consumption, according to a report by Rabobank.

The report, called Global Sugar to 2021, forecasts that annual global sugar consumption will rise to 203 million tonnes in raw value terms by 2020/21 from 166 million tonnes currently. The report shows that the key driver of increasing world consumption will be Asia, where consumption is expected to reach 97m tonnes from 75m tonnes over the same period.
