Mexico – Sugar crop continues to progress fast

The pace of sugar production in Mexico shows hardly any sign of slowing down when compared with last year. Even though output was somewhat lower in the week ended January 5 when compared with the week before this was mainly because of the end of the year holidays. When compared with the previous year output continues to show healthy growth.

Total sugar production in the 2012/13 cycle in the period ended January 5 reached 1.347 mln tonnes, tel quel, up from 914,000 tonnes in the same period a year ago. Molasses production was up by 42% at over 450,000 tonnes and the cane crush reached almost 13 mln tonnes compared with 9.2 mln.
