India’s sugar production may fall to 25 mln t in 2012/13

India’s sugar production in the next 2012/13 (Oct/Sep) crushing season may fall to around 25 mln tonnes, white value, from 26 mln this season on a likely dip in output in Maharashtra and Karnataka, said Vinay Kumar, managing director of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF).

He pegged production in top producer Maharashtra to fall by 10% from a little more than 9 mln tonnes estimated for 2011/12 as sugarcane yields could suffer due to insufficient rains so far in the year.
