According to experts, the number of Brazilian sugar and ethanol plants seeking some kind of stamp to prove the sustainability of its production is increasing. Currently there are several mechanisms in the world, but the ones that most interest Brazilian plants are those certificates that allow the sale of fuel to major markets like the U.S. and Europe.

“Brazil already has a significant number of certified plants and the demand has increased, especially for the seal of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeking entry to the U.S.,” said Rodrigues Tarcilo, the IETHA – International Ethanol Trade Association.

There are no data to show the impact of commercial certifications of ethanol in Brazilian export market, but there is a consensus among experts about the importance of this type of seal for so sought commoditization of ethanol and also serve as a sample of the sector commitment to sustainability.
