Brazil – CS sugarcane crush accelerates in H1 October

The Centre/South (CS) sugarcane harvest in Brazil regained momentum in the first half of October after a slowdown in the previous two weeks, as rainfall remained modest and relatively few sugar and ethanol mills closed down for the season, industry association Unica said.

Mills in the CS crushed 38.00 mln tonnes of cane during the first half of October, up 62.1% from a year earlier and 19% more than in the second half of September. Sugar production in the region surged 56.7% on the year to 2.79 mln tonnes, tel quel, with ethanol output rising 46.2% to 1.61 bln litres.
