Brazil ’13/14 cane, ethanol output seen lower due to rain-Datagro

Estimates for Brazil’s 2013/14 sugar cane crush and ethanol output were lowered by local analyst Datagro on Wednesday due to excessive rains early this year that will likely lower the recoverable sugar levels in the crop.

Datagro President Plinio Nastari said the center-south cane crush should reach 584.5 million tonnes, down from his previous estimate of 587 million. His ethanol production estimate fell to 24.07 billion liters from 24.5 billion previously.

Nastari did not mention a revision of his sugar output estimate, which was forecast at a record 36.6 million tonnes on March 19.
