One of the biggest challenges today for the Brazilian sugarcane industry is to maintain its competitiveness in the country and abroad. So until 2020/2021 the country will process about 1.2 billion tons of cane to supply the international sugar market share around 50% and to supply the domestic market for ethanol and rising demand for flex-fuel vehicles (cars and motorcycles). The statement is from Luiz Paes, general manager of products, market and opportunities of CTC - Sugarcane Technology Center, during a presentation in F.O. Lichts Sugar & Ethanol Brazil 2012, held on March 26-28 in São Paulo.
